The painting looks awesome, but wait until you see how large it is. That’s the even more amazing thing. Check out more of Robert Burden’s work at his site. It’s amazing looking stuff that any geek from the 80′s and 90′s will enjoy.

Gallery 1988 has another great show going on this month. This time the nostalgic subject is toys. Tons of wonder images over at toys1988.blogspot.com for you to check out.

All of the artwork is great. The custom Hot Wheels are especially cool. What a great idea, to paint/customize such a small item. For some reason, I find Desiree Fessler’s “My Little Stallion” especially hilarious. Definitely worth checking out (or even purchasing) if you’re in the Los Angeles area between April 1 and April 25.

Be sure to check out the G1988 blog to see the photos of the actual gallery. The pieces of Hot Wheels track on the wall are insanely cool looking and really add to the feel of the show. Add this to the list of cool shows (Stan Lee, 8-Bit, etc) that Gallery 1988 has done.

Here, you can see that Carter and I were attempting to recreate the cover to the MARVEL MONSTERS: DEVIL DINOSAUR special that Marvel Comics put out a few years ago. I think we did pretty good, especially that Hulk.

It’s plain to see that this is a drawing of Spider-Man. If the red and blue doesn’t give it away, the webs coming from his hands should. Awesome!

He’s made such an improvement in coloring and drawing in just a few weeks. Suddenly he’s attempting to draw faces and characters and coloring almost completely inside the lines. We try to color or draw at least a few times a week.

Artist Johnny Ryan will have a horror themed series of artwork on display at Secret Headquarters in L.A. through January 7th, 2008. Anyone in the area that’s a fan of horror should check it out. The painting are for sale and every single piece looks cool.

For those that can’t make the show, all of the pieces are posted on a Flickr set by SecretHeadquarters. My favorites have to be the Exorcist, the Alien vs. Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Thing.

You owe it to yourself to check out the art of David Lanham. Very cool, quirky imagery and style. He’s got tons of stuff to look at on the site, including desktop images, icons, and even Munnys.

I’ve not had the chance to read David Petersen’s Mouse Guard, but I’ve heard wonderful things about it, especially the hardcover edition. The above image of Cthulu Mouse (artwork done for a fan) only makes me want to read the series even more. Added to the Amazon wish list for this Christmas. I think someone’s been watching/reading too much Da Vinci Code. The idea that Da Vinci hid an image of a mother and a child in the Last Supper and it can only be seen when a mirror image of the painting is overlaid on the original is insane. Seriously.

Putting a mirror image of any image over itself and reducing the transparency will create all kinds of weirdness, especially in a photo/image full of figures. The mirrored and overlaid image may reveal what looks to be a mother and child, but it is pure accident. Looking at the image, I think it looks like Jesus is looking at the sky with his mouth open and is surrounded by ghosts. That’s not hidden in the image, it’s the mirror image. Seriously, this guy has too much time on his hands and to report it as news even makes it worse.

Anyway, Buzz has always professed his admiration Michael Golden, specifically Dr. Strange #55. after investigating Golden a little, I realized how many of my favorite books as a kid were drawn by him and how much his style influenced artists like Art Adams, who was/is another favorite of mine. I actually met Adams and got a sketch from him back in the late 80′s at Heroes Con in Charlotte, NC.

Anyway, back to the story, it seems that Golden is making an attempt to get back into comics and procure a little more work, however I don’t think it’s going to work out that well for him. Check out the below piece of art Golden produced as a paid, $500 commission:

You can read the full story here, but the short version is as follows. Golden was paid $500 + $37 shipping, by a fan. The piece was to be delivered within a 6 week time frame. Finally, nine months later, after continually contacting Golden and his agent, the fan received the above image of Dr. Strange apparently blowing a “raspberry” and stating that “Patience is a Virue[sic]“.

I guess Golden isn’t aware of this little thing we call the Internet. I’m sure this story will spread like wildfire and I’d hazard a guess that Golden’s commission work (and rate) will decrease as the convention season comes to a close.

I’ve blogged about Project Rooftop before in previous incarnations of this site, but it deserves another mention. They’re currently running a spotlight on Supergirl, who could definitely use a redesign right now. A few of the images I recognize from the Draw Supergirl Meme that was making the rounds in early February, but it’s nice to get the info that Project Rooftop provides with each entry.

Plus, you also get a lot of other cool redesigns and re-imaginings at Project Rooftop.
