I can’t believe it was 20 years ago when I first started reading Sandman from DC Comics Vertigo imprint. It was my introduction to Neil Gaiman and I’ve been a fan ever since.

I’ve devoured everything Sandman related since then and I eagerly await receiving the final 2 volumes in the Absolute Sandman series this Christmas, so I can re-read the entire series.

One great thing about the series was the cast of rotating artists. Being only 14 when the series started, it introduced me to great artists like Jill Thomson, Marc Hempel, MIke Zuli, and more.

If you’re a fan of the series or great looking art, you should check out the Endless Refelctions: 20 Years of Sandman gallery. Many of the pieces are available for purchase—if you have the $$.

Fables Collection Cover by James Jean

If you’re a fan of artist James Jean (if you’re not, you should be), you’ll be glad to know that DC Comics is releasing a hardback collection of his work on the Vertigo series Fables.

Jean has posted the beautiful wrap-around cover for the collection on his site and you can pre-order the book from Amazon right now for $26. Just check out his blog for examples of his stunning work. Well worth picking up in hardcover.

Swamp Thing Season 1 and 2 Cover ArtTVShowsOnDVD have announced that Seasons 1 and 2 of USA Television’s Swamp Thing series will be released on DVD on January 22, 2008. I never thought this series would be released. I created my own DVD set of this show a few years ago and it was one of the harder shows I’ve tried to locate. I went through several people until I found decent quality VHS recordings. After all of that, the quality was still lacking, so I’m really looking forward to this release.

Sleep tight naughty evildoers! Don’t let the Swamp Thing bite! Enter into a mind-bending world where a humanoid mass of plant life matter fights to protect his swamp home, the environment and humanity from various supernatural and evil threats as the comic book superhero Swamp Thing comes to life! On January 22, 2008, Shout! Factory will unleash the Swamp Thing: The Series DVD box set, packed with all original 22 original suspenseful episodes culled from Seasons 1 & 2 of the cult TV series, in the order they were meant to be seen. Special revealing bonus features include exclusive interviews with Swamp Thing co-creator Len Wein, actor Dick Durock and more!

It’s really unbelievable the amount of shows that are being released on DVD. It’s no secret that TV on DVD is popular with consumers. As the DVD format ages and the most popular shows get released, more and more rare and odd shows such as this will finally see the light of day on DVD.

I don’t know how solid this story is, but it sounds too good to be true.

It looks like HBO is developing a series based on the DC Comics Vertigo series Preacher.

Preacher was a 75 issue series written by Garth Ennis with art by Steve Dillon. It told the story of Jesse Custer, a preacher (and not a good one) from a small town in Texas who is possessed and receives a power he calls the “word of God.” If you’re not familiar with the series, just read the Wikipedia entry for a quick rundown. It’s easily one of my all time favorite books and a HBO series would be the perfect way to bring it to cinematic life.

More bad comic to film news. Fandom.com reports that Tarsem (The Cell) Singh has been singed to direct a film version of Constantine (extremely good DC horror comic). With a script by the same fellow who wrote The Glimmer Man it looks bad all the way around. They describe the character as an occult Dirty Harry, which he is not. It will probably turn out to be a bad horror/action piece of crap.
