More semi-random link goodness for today.

Wookieepedia is an impressive Wiki for all things Star Wars. First of all, you can’t beat that name. Wookieepedia has got to be one of the Top 10 web site names in my book. Second, the Wookieepedia is great for catching up on all your Star Wars lore. I’ve fallen way behind on the books (and will not catch up anytime soon), but in just a few minutes browsing I found out that one character from the Marvel Comics Star Wars run is returning. Lumiya was one of the first evil Jedi created after Darth Vader and has quite a good history in the comic series. Definitely makes me want to read the new Legacy of the Force series.

myIPneighbors.com is a fascinating site if you have a website. You can enter your IP or domain name and see what other sites are sharing your server. Since my host is European, nothing really cool popped up. That also means that my site (and the few others a friend and I host on that server) get most of server resources. Find the most overloaded server out there. Once search returned 641 sites on a shared host. Wow.

Texter is a great time saving tool for Windows users that do a lot of typing or coding. Within a few minutes, you can set Texter up to replace a few keystrokes with any text you choose. It makes blogging a snap. I can type hre+TAB key and instantly I’ve got a fully formatted link tag with the URL in my clipboard pasted in my document. Try it, you’ll like it.

Shaper of Worlds

So, what does that weird looking guy (the Shaper Of Worlds) up above have to do with Spider-Man? Read on and find out…

For several years, the higher-ups at Marvel Comics have made it known, they don’t like having a married Spider-Man. They state that it’s hard for younger fans to related to a married super-hero. Never mind the fact that the titles that feature a married Spider-Man are not ones I would let my kid read until he was a little older. Ways to solve this “problem” have been talked about for years. They don’t want to upset long-time readers by killing Mary Jane and they don’t want to do a reboot and just have the next issue start over.

I’ve given up on the core Spider-Man titles. They’ve not had a distinctive voice since the 90’s and no one seems to really know how to handle the character or supporting cast. I was never bothered by the fact he married MJ in the comics, but perhaps that causes many writers problems. Anyway…

The rumors of a “reboot” are heating up again. In August, writer J. Michael Straczynski and artist Joe Quesada (Marvel comics Editor-In-Chief) will tell a story entitled “One More Day” starting in issue #544 of Amazing Spider-Man. Many believe this is the story that will reboot the Spider-Man franchise. If today’s rumor is true, it would leave things very similar to the current movie continuity, which isn’t a bad thing.

…they would have put Peter Parker through the worst of it, until he considers ending it all. At that point, he’d find himself on the bridge where Gwen Stacy died, offering his soul if the clock could have been turned back to simpler times. At which point the Shaper Of Worlds does just that, remaking Spider-Man’s world to when he was back in High School, but with the current book’s supporting cast, taking place in the modern day. Eventually confronting the Shaper, he discovers nothing can be changed, and his memories of the old world slowly fade away. The team decided though that this kind of event would be too “cosmic” for Spider-Man, who has a “street level” tone.

It feels like a cheap way out to me and it may not even be true, we’ll see in August. For good Spider-Man comics, just read Ultimate Spider-Man by Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley (soon Stuart Immomen).

Looking through the site logs today, I noticed some of the terms/phrases that have led people to my little slice of the Internet. In an attempt to “give them what they want” I’ll pick a few and provide the answers. Here we go:

getting a silver surfer quarter: My guess is ebay is the only way this will happen. With the US Mint putting the smack-down on 20th Century Fox and the Franklin Mint for distributing these babies, they’re going to be even more rare. If you really, really want one, just print the image below and glue it to a California state quarter.

why do ben and johnny switch powers? I’m not sure about this, because I haven’t seen the movie, but the preview leads you to believe that after Johnny is touched by the Surfer, his molecules become unstable (in a nod to the comic fact that the FF’s costumes are made from unstable molecules). When he is touched by another member of the FF, they swap powers.

dc comic water wizard photo: The Water Wizard is actually a Marvel villain, so searching for DC Water Wizard might not get you much. Perhaps you were thinking of the Weather Wizard, who is a DC comics villain and enemy of the Flash. Anyway, here’s a picture of the Water Wizard. Get all his info in the database.

harvey birdman font: If I recall correctly, the closest I came to matching the Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law font was with the dafont.com Dynomite Font.

what sinister secrets are being hidden in winnie the pooh: I don’t know, but if anyone finds out, I too, would also be interested in knowing.
