Chewbacca, R2, and Howie Make a Deal 

This post is all about revelations. In one blog post I discovered three things relating to Star Wars I didn’t know.

  1. I had no idea there was an “official’ StarWars.com blog. It’s surprisingly good and filled with fun and quirky Star Wars/Lucas related content. RSS Added!
  2. While you’re at the Star Wars blog site, be sure to check their Flickr page as well. It’s full of great photos (over 1,200) and there are some gems hidden in there. This particular “Vader Project” entry cracks me up. 
  3. It’s sad how far Star Wars and Lucasfilm will go to promote their characters now. On Monday, April 28, many characters will appear on the NBC show Deal or No Deal. Darth Vader will be the banker, the models will wear Slave Leia costumes, and Chewbacca and R2-D2 will also appear. If you’re going to allow this, then it’s time to release the Star Wars Christmas Special on DVD.

I’ve always considered myself a Star Wars fan (even a fanatic). As I’ve grown older, I’ve grown out of it to an extent. The new movies didn’t fascinate me as much and I only occasionally read some of the novels. I think the lack of original content caused me to go elsewhere (comic books) and the lack of depth in the content cemented the passing of the torch to comics. With all the various publishers, writers and creators out there, the amount and variety (horror, sci-fi, heroes, real life, etc.) out there is hard to compete with.

Still, I’ll always be willing to sit and watch or read Star Wars if I’m in the mood. Carter and I will be in the theater opening weekend for the Clone Wars cartoon movie and I’m sure we’ll watch the cartoon and upcoming live action show and not miss an episode.

I just hope they’re good.

Ben Walker- A Love That Transcends Time, Space and Manufacturer

Gallery 1988 has another great show going on this month. This time the nostalgic subject is toys. Tons of wonder images over at toys1988.blogspot.com for you to check out.

Desiree Fessler - My Little Stallion All of the artwork is great. The custom Hot Wheels are especially cool. What a great idea, to paint/customize such a small item. For some reason, I find Desiree Fessler’s “My Little Stallion” especially hilarious. Definitely worth checking out (or even purchasing) if you’re in the Los Angeles area between April 1 and April 25.

Be sure to check out the G1988 blog to see the photos of the actual gallery. The pieces of Hot Wheels track on the wall are insanely cool looking and really add to the feel of the show. Add this to the list of cool shows (Stan Lee, 8-Bit, etc) that Gallery 1988 has done.

  • Your Jedi robe is camouflage.
  • You have ever used your light saber to open a bottle of Bud Light.
  • At least one wing of your X-Wings is primer colored.
  • You can easily describe the taste of an Ewok.
  • You have ever had a land-speeder up on blocks in your yard.
  • The worst part of spending time on Dagobah is the dadgum skeeters.
  • Wookiees are offended by your B.O.
  • You have ever used the force to get yourself another beer so you didn’t have to wait for a commercial.
  • You have ever used the force in conjunction with fishing or bowling.
  • Your father has ever said to you, “Shoot, son come on over to the dark side…it’ll be a hoot.”
  • You have ever had your R-2 unit use its self-defense electro-shock thingy to get the barbecue grill to light up.

  • You ever fantasized about Princess Leah wearing Daisy Duke shorts.
  • You have the doors of your X-wing welded shut and you have to get in through the window.
  • Although you had to kill him, you kinda thought that Jabba the Hutt had a pretty good handle on how to treat his women.
  • You have a cousin who bears a strong resemblance to Chewbacca.
  • You suggested that they outfit the Millennium Falcon with redwood deck.
  • You were the only person drinking Jack Daniels during the cantina scene.
  • If you hear . . . “Luke, I am your father… and your uncle…”

Just a few interesting notes from the weekend.

IronManWork

A large batch of new photos were posted at the Iron Man movie site. Several great shots in there, including different versions of the armor. The one above is a favorite. Seems to explain the movie all by itself. Still can’t get over how cool this is looking. If you didn’t like the Super Bowl commercial for Iron Man, there is not hope for you.

Next up, Marvel has posted a list of the 10 Greatest X-Men. the whole list seems kind of redundant. One, since it’s from Marvel, what kind of perspective do they have. As I was reading it, There were one or two entries where I thought “oh, look at my, I’ve got a new series coming out.” Most of the list I do agree with and I’d expect any longtime fan to as well.

Finally, my favorite question/article I’ve read in a while… Can a Lightsaber Cut Through Superman? If the lightsaber were made with a piece of green kyptonite as its crystal – of course it could. How big of a geek am I when I read it and I think, “of course, that makes perfect sense.”

JabbaCake

Great White Snark has been hitting the ball out of the park lately with all of his great Star Wars cake finds. He recently posted the above Jabba the Hutt wedding cake. Notice the little Han, Leia, and Salacious Crumb in front of it. Awesome. Check the GWS post for more pictures.

Look for the related items at the bottom of the post to check out the other Star Wars cakes he’s found. Look for the Stormtrooper cake, the Max Rebo cake, and the Yoda cake. We might have to make a Stormtrooper cake. I don’t think it would be that complicated.
