Added the All New OHotMU entry from 2005 for Spider-Man.

Osborn also revealed Spider-Man’s identity to Mac Gargan, the Scorpion, and had him kidnap Aunt May, Osborn had been publicly revealed as the Green Goblin and jailed after murdering journalist Terri Kidder. He knew big businesses had been conspiring since the 1950s to create super-villains and, as a potential whistle-blower, was an easy target in prison, Osborn wanted Peter to break him out in return for May’s freedom but when Peter did, a battle erupted with the Sinister Twelve, including Gargan himself—now a new Venom after bonding with the alien symbiote. Around this time, Spider-Man met The Queen who had powers allowing her to control the world’s insects, eventually causing Spider-Man to mutate into a giant spider. She planned to detonate a bomb that would kill everyone except those with the insect gene but Peter returned to his human form and stopped her, albeit with enhanced powers. Recently, Spider-Man joined the New Avengers. No matter his change in powers or group membership, Spider-Man is always one of the world’s greatest heroes.

It’s time for some Spider-Man. Since Spider-Man 3 is just around the corner, I thought I would start adding Spider-Man related characters to the Who’s OHotMU site.

Take a look at the entry, it’s quite detailed. All of that is from the 2004 All New Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe – Spider-Man edition. I’ll add the info from the 2005 book in a day or two. Just reading makes a person crazy. Peter Parker has experienced a lot of death and loss in his lifetime. From the recent books, that may not be the end of it either.

Comcast has a Spider-Man 3 site that features the “final” trailer for the film being released on May 4th. Aside from several new shots, a few seconds on the origins of the black costume, and lots of good Spider-Man action, it features the first real good shots of Topher Grace as Eddie Brock (Venom).

It’s looks like Venom will play a large role in the film and could possible be the main villain (and not the Sandman). It’s interesting that Sony has not really released any info about Venom to the “public,” with the only appearances of the character appearing in an NBC.com exclusive clip and this Comcast clip. If it weren’t for the Venom toys that appeared in stores this past Saturday, his appearance would almost be a secret.

Every preview I’ve seen looks better and better and I have no doubts, but I wonder how the public is going to react. I’m glad they’ve used Venom as a villain. Sam Raimi was originally opposed, but the character was a great villain in the comics before he became over-exposed and watered-down. From the few snippets in the trailer, the character of Eddie Brock (Venom) has similar motivations and that should provide quite a few dramatic moments.

Electro - Classic Spider-Man Villain

Electro is a classic looking Spider-Man villain. He may be something on a one-trick pony, but you have to admit, the corny looking lightning bolt head gear is a great visual. I can't recall anyone even using Electro all that much in the past few (or more) years. He made an appearance or two in Ultimate Spider-Man (with an uncool, redesigned look) and one on the MTV Spider-Man cartoon, but hardly anything all in the Marvel Universe proper. I think we should start a petition for a starring role in Spider-Man 4.

My favorite entry in the bio below is the line about him being "extremely sensitive" to anything that might short-circuit him. . . Maybe he starts to cry if you confront him with a squirt gun or bucket of water.

Maybe, just maybe we’ll get a good Marvel animated series in 2008 with the premier of a new Spider-Man series entitled The Amazing Spider-Man. It seems that Marvel dominates the movie box office with their comic adaptations, but when it comes to the small screen they definitely trail behind DC (see JLU, Batman, Superman and the Legion).

The 2006 Fantastic Four cartoon that debuted on Cartoon Network last year disappeared after only 6 episodes. Supposedly it will return in a few months with the release of the Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer movie.

BURBANK, CA (MARCH 1, 2007) – Spider-Man swings back into television action in early 2008 as an animated series from Culver Entertainment to air on Kids’ WB! on The CW, it was announced today by Kids’ WB! Senior Vice President and General Manager Betsy McGowen and Sony Pictures Television Co-President Zack Van Amburg.

Tentatively titled “The Amazing Spider-Man,” the new series is being produced by Culver Entertainment. Greg Weisman (“Gargoyles”, “The Batman”) is supervising producer, Victor Cook (“Hellboy: Blood and Iron” and “Buzz Lightyear of Star Command”) is producer/supervising director. The series will premiere on Kids’ WB! on The CW, the No.1 rated Saturday morning kids broadcast slate.
