LucasArts to Unleash the Force on the Wii in Spring 2008
Star Warsâ„¢: The Force Unleashedâ„¢ Coming to Nintendo’s Platform with Exclusive Duel Mode
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Sept. 18, 2007 – LucasArts today revealed that Star Warsâ„¢: The Force Unleashedâ„¢ will come to the Wiiâ„¢ home videogame system from Nintendo next spring, offering owners the unique chance to live out their Jedi fantasies by wielding the Wii Remoteâ„¢ as a lightsaber while using the Nunchukâ„¢ controller to torment foes with their Forceâ„¢ powers.
The Force Unleashed casts players as Darth Vader’s “Secret Apprentice” and promises to unveil new revelations about the Star Wars galaxy. The game’s expansive story is set during the largely unexplored era between Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. In it, players will assist the iconic villain in his quest to rid the universe of Jedi – and face decisions that could change the course of their destiny.
The Wii version, in development by Krome Studios, will also add an exclusive duel mode in which players can compete head-to-head with their friends to determine the ultimate Jedi Master.
“The Wii is a great platform for The Force Unleashed, because the console’s motion-oriented controllers really bring the game to life,” said Jim Ward, President of LucasArts. “We’ve worked hard to make the Wii version of the game unique in order to truly let you unleash the Force.”
Now the questions begin. Will “Duel Mode” be online compatible? Will players duel with their Mii’s or in-game characters? Will you be able to customize those characters? If both duel members are playing on the same system, will they face the screen or each other? Will I be able to find a Wii? Will I get one for Christmas? Will Carter dig this game as much as I will?
Important questions, all of them. Maybe some answers will be revealed at the official Star Wars: The Force Unleashed site or perhaps I must pursue other avenues or information.
The following article on Geek Idiot (5 Reasons Why the PS3 Isn’t Selling) really caught my attention. This past weekend, I had an old Nintendo NES out checking cartridges and cleaning it up. Carter was fascinated by the old Zapper light-gun and was playing with them.
I popped in Wild Gunman and he immediately started playing. Now, he didn't make it far, but he was having a blast. I took the Zapper and started playing and he picked up the spare (which was not plugged in) and started playing with me. Just a few minutes later, Jill's dad showed up and he and Carter started playing and kept on playing for a while. Never in a million years would I imagine him playing a video game, but here he was playing the game, because it was with his grandson (and he was having fun, too).
So, reason #1 really made sense to me and I think it explains why the Wii has been such a big hit this past holiday season.
Families want to play together. Gaming has become a national past time in many households, but unfortunately many families also feel a disconnect because of gaming. Kids usually lock themselves in their rooms to play the latest games while parents wonder how they can spend more time with the kids. I’ve heard of parents trying to get into gaming, but there is such a strong disconnect between hardcore games and casual games that often times they simply give up. Enter the Nintendo Wii. When Nintendo made it known that they were targeting casual gamers this also meant people who never really got into gaming because it didn’t appeal to them. Seeing how Nintendo Sports works and its hard for any parent to pass it up thinking of how great it would be to finally play a game that the whole family can get involved in. Instead of creating a next-gen console, Nintendo has created the new dinner table for the 21st century… Read the full article
There’s a hilarious website that lists all the controller mishaps people have had with the new Nintendo Wii controller. I can’t quite decide if Wii Have a Problem is for real or not. There are obvious entries that are faked (and make no attempt to be otherwise). Just go take a look for a few legitimate and a whole load of fake Nintendo Wii injuries. The image below, is obviously a fake.
