Wow! How cool is that (assuming it’s still there). Four minutes of footage were shown at San Diego Comic Con this past weekend and even the crappy bootleg copy looks amazing. Iron Man kicking ass to Black Sabbath’s Iron Man is about as perfect as it can get. The feel and the energy for this preview as spot on perfect. This is officially the movie I can’t wait to see next year.

Golden Compass Extended Preview
Over the weekend, an extended 5 minute preview of The Golden Compass was posted. Lots of new footage is shown, but most importantly I think it gives a good idea of the film to those who have no experience with the book. Out of all of the movies that studios have developed as Harry Potter clones, this one has the best chance to succeed.
After the success of the Harry Potter films, studios were snatching up any fantasy related material with kids present. In the past few years we’ve had Eragon, Bridge to Terabithia, the Chronicles of Narnia (which also got a push from Lord of the Rings), The Dark Is Rising, The Spiderwick Chronicles, and many more that I’m forgetting.
Based on just the previews, The Golden Compass looks to be the most engrossing. It looks less like an attempt to pander toward the “Harry Potter” audience and more like a honest attempt to bring Philip Pullman’s world to the screen.
Simpsonize Me and Greatest Quotes
Burger King is running a promotion with the Simpsons Movie and has release the Simpsonize Me webiste. This site allows you to upload a photo and it will be rendered as a Simpsons character. Unlike the feature on the Simpsons Movie site, this is supposedly an automated process. Notice I say supposedly, as I couldn’t get it to work. Having said that, the results that Michael Calore of Wired Blog Network achieved were pretty accurate. I’ll keep trying and see what it produces.
There’s no denying the appeal of the Simpsons. Although some would argue the show has faded from its glory days, anyone that’s ever been a fan of the show could likely recite a few favorite quites. Everyone knows “D’oh” and it was honored by being included in the Oxford English Dictionary. An interesting side note about D’oh – it’s always written in the scripts as “annoyed grunt.”
Head on over and read Blogzarro’s 101 Greatest Simpsons Quotes and see if your favorite is on there. Mine is #7 – Homer: Oh, so they have Internet on computers now!
allaboutduncan – Simpsons Style

Over at The Simpsons Movie Site they’ve got a feature to create a Simpsons Avatar of yourself. After a little tinkering, I can say that mine looks pretty accurate.
MegaForce (and Blade Runner) Celebrate 25th Anniversary
Blade Runner is getting all the press and blog posts, but let’s not forget the other cinematic gem that was released 25 years ago today…

MegaForce was also released on June 25, 1982. Starring Barry Bostwick as Ace Hunter. He’s the leader of Megaforce, an elite group of American soldiers who travel the world to fight Evil. I don’t think I’ve even seen this movie, but looking at some comics with Carter yesterday, I stumbled across the MegaForce ad offering up membership in MegaForce for only one dollar. For your hard-earned dollar, you would get:
- The official MegaForce patch
- MegaForce membership card
- Reflective bike decal
I never joined, but I remember wanting too, thinking the movie looked like the coolest thing to come along since Star Wars. Those were the days when you had to send off for cool stuff by the mail. There was no instant gratification of the Internet. It reminds me of the scene in “A Christmas Story” where Ralphie waits for his Little Orphan Annie decoder ring and is disappointed when he decodes an Ovaltine ad.
I say bring back the mail order promotions and while you’re at it, where is my MegaForce DVD?
