Japanese Batman / X-Men Cartoon
Thanks to Michael for showing me this Japanese Batman cartoon intro. It’s the intro for the 1977 New Adventures of Batman animated series (with a few additional clips and edits) set to a crazy Batman theme. Can’t believe I’d never heard of this before.
After watching it, I saw the Japanese opening for the X-Men animated series from Fox in the 1990’s. It’s much more intense than the original opening. Very different from the Batman opening. Interesting how much styles and tastes have changed in 20 years.
Simpsons Movie References (Times Two)
UPDATE: I’ve updated the links in the post below for the Simpsons movie references to point to Actualidad Simpson. It seems that is the original site for the images I posted about. The other site had copied the content from there. The Actualidad Simpson site has a better collection of images and has them organized by film. Just translate the site to English and have fun.
I’ve always noticed a few cinematic references in episodes of the Simpsons, but the list of Simpsons Scenes and their reference movies is just too cool. I never realized how many there were. The sad part is for all the ones pictured, I remember at least one more. Hopefully someone will put together part 2.
On a similarly titled note, the 19th season premier last night (He Loves to Fly and He D’ohs) referenced this summer’s The Simpsons Movie in the intro. A destroyed Springfield was shown being cleaned up and rebuilt and Spider-Pig makes an appearance in the couch gag at the end of the intro.
While I don’t watch the show on any sort of regular basis like I used to, it still cracks me up any time I manage to catch a few minutes. Almost 20 years later and it’s still funny (maybe not as much) and still packed with pop-culture references (more of which I now catch).
Circuit Boards + Playdough = Bad Idea
It was a conflict of book smarts versus common sense when MIT student Star Simpson entered the Logan International Airport wearing a shirt with a circuit board and a 9V battery attached. To make matters worse, she was holding a lump of playdough in her hands.
Star Simpson, 19, was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and approached an airport employee in Terminal C at 8 a.m. to inquire about an incoming flight from Oakland, according to Major Scott Pare of the State Police. She was holding a lump of what looked like putty in her hands. The employee asked about the plastic circuit board on her chest, and Simpson walked away without responding, Pare said.
In the words of Homer Simpson, “I am so smart. S – M – R – T. Smart.”
Dulce Pinzón’s Real Superheroes
I’ve posted about the about the work or artist Dulce Pinzón before. It’s worth mentioning again, because the artist has a new website with several news photos from her “Real Story of Superheroes” series posted. My favorite is easily the Human torch photo above, but the Spider-Man is a close second.
